Most people can quit smoking with the right help and experience very little physical and emotional stress. But occasionally some strange symptoms can arise.
- Feeling shaky. This is most likely as a result of low blood sugar. Nicotine artificially pushes your sugar levels. A simple solution is to eat apples in between meals or have some juice handy for first thing in the morning and during the night. This will self regulate within a few days.
- Diarrhoea. Some people have a larger number of nicotine receptors in the digestive system and especially in the large bowel. This will pass, so just treat it as any other gastro event for a few days.
Ensure that you are well hydrated, drink plenty of water and if the diarrhoea is severe then use an electrolyte mix such as gastrolyte
- Stomach Cramping.
- Excess salivation. This is rare, indicating extra nicotine receptors in the mouth. Perhaps some nicotine gum can be helpful, but you may just have to tough it out for a couple of days.
- Strong emotional upheavals. In my experience this occurs when there is significant pre-existing anxiety or depression. And usually when a client is being medicated for these issues. The best approach is to use stress reduction method in conjunction with hypnosis and reduce smoking over a couple of weeks.
This is because there is already a degree of brain chemistry imbalance and sudden withdrawal of nicotine can have an upsetting effect.
All of these symptoms affect only a small percentage of smokers, some are predictable and some not. The best place to start for anyone is Rapid change Quit smoking Hypnosis, with the exception of anxiety and depression where this is done after other stress reducing measures have been taken.
It is important to not be worried by these symptoms. Remember only a few people will experience them. But what if you do have these problems, what if you were the unluckiest person on the planet and you had them all!
Well you would certainly suffer for just a few days. But then you would you would be free from smoking for life. And the discomfort of these symptoms which you are unlikely to experience anyway, is just a tiny fraction of the prolonged emotional and physical pain you will feel if you keep smoking.
