We've all done it. Waffled on a decision. Have you ever questioned a decision that you made in the past? What would it be like if you had a "Life Compass," that consistently guided you to the right decision every time? Can you imagine making important decisions within the space of 7 breaths? In Hagakure, The Book of the Samurai, it states, "When matters are done leisurely, seven out of ten will turn out badly. A warrior is a person who does things quickly... With an intense, fresh, and undelaying spirit, one will make his judgments within the space of seven breaths."
Let's examine this concept and put it through a practical test. You want to buy
car. There are hundreds of different cars to choose from. Do you make a decision in 7 breaths that you want a 1969 Ford Mustang? No, you have a system in your mind that helps you define what kind of car you need. You figure out what features are important that fit your lifestyle and your budget. The problems arise if that system runs haywire with impulse action. Let's set up a system that will solve this impulse action.
After you've done your research on the models that interest you, then
you can take 7 breaths and make your decision. Once you've done proper research and your important questions have been discovered, you can destroy doubt. If you took a lax approach to your research than doubt is a reasonable companion. If any indecision creeps into your mind, destroy this unwelcome intruder with sharp answers that will cut through your doubts.
Listen, risk is part of life. Do not live in a "what if" world. Take a chance and reap the rewards. As they say in Vegas, you got to be in it to win it. The casual observer never wins and they don't erect statues of critics. Have confidence in your decision and cognitive dissonance will kick in to validate your choice. The more confidence you have in a decision the more you'll be satisfied with the outcome. You will actually convince yourself that you've made a great choice. This is when your brain starts to rationalize all the reasons your decision is the tops. This kind of personal validation makes for smooth sleeping. You'll be able to go to bed at night knowing you make smart choices. If we are defined by the choices we make, then you get smarter and smarter with every great decision you make. Does that make sense? Yes... it does!
